Fred Abrahams

PROFILE

Fred Abrahams is responsible for training Human Rights Watch research staff, developing research methodology, and supervising work by the Crisis and Conflict division, Refugee and Migrant Rights division and Digital Investigations Lab. He has documented human rights and laws-of-war violations in places such as Albania, Bangladesh, Iraq, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Sri Lanka, Syria and Israel, Gaza and the West Bank. He has authored numerous reports, articles and opinion pieces on human rights and co-authored A Village Destroyed: War Crimes in Kosovo (University of California Press, 2002). His book, Modern Albania: From Dictatorship to Democracy in Europe (NYU Press, 2015), describes the fall of communism and turbulent transition in Albania. Abrahams has a bachelor's degree in German and International Studies and a master's in International Affairs from Columbia University. He speaks German and Albanian.
