PROFILE

River Akira Davis is a correspondent for The New York Times, covering Japanese business and economy and society. Ms. Davis has been reporting on Japan since 2018, covering a wide array of topics from auto giants and plane crashes to trade disputes and challenges related to Japan's aging society. Ms. Davis joined The Times in 2024, having previously worked at The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News. She is an alumna of Georgetown University and holds a master's degree in public policy and finance from The University of Tokyo. Ms. Davis grew up in a small town in southern Oregon before relocating to the East Coast and eventually to Japan.
