Masashi Hamabe

Manager of Editing Managing Department, Financial Information Unit, DIAMOND,Inc.

Mr. Hamabe is a graduate of the School of Arts and Letters at Meiji University. As a 19-year-old student, he started working part-time at the publisher MAGAZINE HOUSE as an editorial assistant. An extremely busy student, he also juggled stints as a writer/intern for "dacapo," "Heibon Punch," and "Popeye," played in a band at clubs etc., and worked at a jazz coffee house.
After graduating, he joined a publishing house that specialized in women's magazines. He was known as "the mastermind of the child-rearing manga trend," having planned and edited several child-rearing manga series, such as "Atashi Tenshi, Anata Akuma (I am an angel, you are a devil)" and "Mama Loves the Poyopoyo-Saurus." In 1994, he moved to Diamond, Inc. to help launch "Diamond Type." He was later transferred to the Press Unit, where he edited several books such as "Kaisha Zukan! (Company guide)" "Daigaku Zukan! (College guide)" and "Okane wa Koushitec (Do this with money)".

In March 2000, Mr. Hamabe launched "Diamond ZAi," which quickly became the #1 finance magazine. He took the post of editor-in-chief of "Diamond ZAi" in April 2002. He also served as editor-in-chief of "Diamond Kabu (stocks) Data Book," "Diamond Money," and the web editorial department before settling in his current position.
In April 2008, he launched the finance website "ZAi Online" for private investors, which boasts 400,000 unique users a month. He is also currently active as the producer of the Ustream program "ZAi FXTV (Harajuku)."
