Naoko Shindo

Medical Officer, Global Influenza Programme
World Health Organization

Dr. Shindo is a medical doctor and doctor of medical science who graduated from The Jikei University School of Medicine in 1990. Her specialties are internal medicine and infectious disease, and she is a qualified Infection Control Doctor. After graduating, she underwent clinical training at St. Thomas' Hospital (London) and Radcliffe Infirmary (Oxford) for general surgery, vascular surgery, and neurosurgery. After working as a staff doctor in internal medicine at The Jikei University Hospital, she transferred to the Infectious Disease Surveillance Center in 1998 where she was promoted to Senior Researcher in 2000. From 2002, she was assigned to WHO, where she has been working on infectious outbreak and alert measures and clinical management of dangerous pathogens. She is also the mother of two children.
