Richard L. Folsom

Representative Partner, Advantage Partners

Mr. Folsom graduated from Brigham Young University with a major in Japanese and Economics and went on to earn an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Upon graduation, he worked at an American strategic consulting company where he developed strategies for powerful European and American companies looking to enter Japan, prepared corporate strategies for major Japanese companies, planned competitive strategies for individual operations, executed new product development programs, and implemented cost-cutting programs.
In 1992, Mr. Folsom founded Advantage Partners together with Taisuke Sasanuma and took the position of Representative Partner. Since the establishment of the first buyout fund in Japan in 1997, he has been working in private equity investment services. His research papers include "Comparison of management styles between Japanese and American companies," "Emerging equity markets as international diversification opportunities," and "Fallacies of Japan-entry strategies among European and American companies."
