Swedish Ambassador to Japan

PROFILE

Pereric Högberg was named ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Japan in September 2019. He was Sweden’s ambassador to Vietnam between 2016-2019. Before becoming an ambassador, he spent eight years in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Africa Department in roles of increasing responsibility, with the last four years as Head of the Africa Department.

Upon graduation from university, Mr. Högberg spent a year as a researcher in the Department of Political Science of Uppsala University. He then became a Desk Officer in Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
His diplomatic career has included roles the Swedish Embassies in Namibia and in South Africa and four years as a desk officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sweden. From 2016-2017, he was the director and head of the International Division of the Swedish Arts Council.

Mr. Högberg has a BA in political science from Uppsala University in Sweden. He’s a devoted choir singer and father of two.
