PROFILE

Born in 1997 and grew up in Shonan of Kanagawa Prefecture[訳注:1]. When studying fashion in the UK under the government’s “Tobitate! (Leap for Tomorrow) Study Abroad Initiative,” she gained a critical awareness of the social issues surrounding clothing and began rethinking the long-term consequences of making clothes.
After graduating from International Christian University, she moved to Kamikatsu in Tokushima Prefecture and went to work for Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center, which opened in May 2020. She now lives in a small town surrounded by mountains with a population of about 1,500 and is engaged in operating the facility, which aims for a recycling society by addressing waste issues.
At the adjoining HOTEL WHY, guests can experience life in Kamikatsu by staying overnight and participate in a study tour upon check-in.
The ethical consumption-themed picture book “Are You Ready? The Journey to the Veiled World”(written by Rika Sueyoshi; illustrations by Gaku Nakagawa), of which she was involved in the translation of as a student, is available from Yamakawa Shuppansha Ltd. She also distributes a quarterly periodical that promotes the charms of Kamikatsu, which is also part of the “Most Beautiful Villages of Japan” Union.[訳注:2]
