Akira Matsumoto graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyoto University, in 1970, before completing a Master’s Degree at the Graduate School of Agriculture of the same university in 1972. He worked for Itochu Corporation between 1972 to 1992, becoming Director and General Manager, Sales Division, Century Medical Inc. (100% affiliate of Itochu Corporation) from 1986 to 1992. From 1993 to 1998 he was Division Director of Ethicon Endo-Surgery Japan and President of Johnson & Johnson Medical Company (now Johnson & Johnson Company), before becoming President of Johnson & Johnson K.K. from 1999 to 2007. From 2008 to March 2009 Mr. Matsumoto was an executive advisor at Johnson & Johnson. From 2009 to June 2018 he was the Chairman of the Board & CEO of CalbeeInc. He became Chairman of the COO of RIZAP GROUP, Inc. in June 2018.
