Speaker's Profile

Motohisa Furukawa

Member of the House of Representatives, Minister for National Policy, Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, Minister for Space Policy

Mr. Furukawa was born in 1965 and hails from Aichi prefecture. After graduating the Faculty of Law at The University of Tokyo in 1988, he joined the Ministry of Finance. He resigned the Ministry of Finance in 1994 and was first elected as Member of the House of Representatives in 1996. He is currently in his fifth term.
His past posts include Senior Vice-Minister of Cabinet Office (Hatoyama Cabinet) and Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary (Kan Cabinet and Reshuffled Kan Cabinet). His mission is to create a strong and agile Japan.
As an individual, Mr. Furukawa is active with “Table for Two,” an NPO that battles world hunger and obesity. He has written the books “Yutakasa no Wana (The trap of luxury)” and “Hajime no Ippo (The first step),” both published by PHP Inc.
