Interactive Discussion: Session 1 (2:30-4:00 PM)

This year, the afternoon sessions are "Interactive Discussions."
Attendees break into small groups to discuss a common theme. Each discussion is 90 minutes long. The first half consists of a lecture by a team of instructors and the second half consists of discussion in which participants are encouraged to ask questions and express their opinions. This year's discussions are expected to be as active and productive as always.
There are five discussions in the first session (101-105). Choose one that suits your interests. This year we plan to post videos of the discussions online.

【101】"Women Making an Impact in Asia" (Conducted in English)

With the eyes of the world on Asia, it is the ideal time for women to leverage the region's growth. What role are women playing in the development of countries such as China and India? We invited Ms. Jalan, a successful entrepreneur in India, and Ms. Tang, who works in both the US and China, to talk about the current business environment and issues in their respective countries as well as what women can do in Japan.

【102】"Moving Japan Forward—Women and the Economy"

Japan held its first ever cabinet meeting on the theme of “Women and the Economy” in May. Maybe now the ball will finally start rolling. What policies will help women to play an active role in Japanese society? What issues do women currently face in Japan? Don't miss this valuable opportunity to discuss these issues and suggest concrete policies with leading Diet members of Japan. This is the first time a cabinet minister has been invited to participate in an interactive discussion at the International Conference for Women in Business. The objective of the discussion is to have a constructive dialogue between all participants that is full of insightful ideas and suggestions. Don’t pass up this invaluable opportunity to speak directly with a cabinet minister about what women in Japan can do, and what dynamic policies are needed, to help vitalize the economy.

Listen to and discuss with successful career women as they talk about their actual experiences, and learn about what state of mind you should be in now to find a better job as well as what you need to know and learn while in your teens, 20s, and early 30s to help your future.

Education is the theme of this discussion. What kind of education and what sort of approach is needed to raise children to become leaders in Japan and the world? What kind of knowledge and mindset are needed to contribute to the world? What is leadership? What does it mean to be self-reliant? Consider these questions from a wide variety of perspectives with fellow participants and discuss topics such as children raised by working mothers, raising children overseas, studying abroad, as well as the education system of Japan and how to improve it.

Living in a small, island country like Japan, it is easy to lose sight of what is happening in the rest of the world.
