Lena Okajima, Ph.D.

PROFILE
Lena Okajima was born in 1979 in Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture. After earning a Ph.D. in astronomy from School of Science, the University of Tokyo, she joined Goldman Sachs. In 2011, she established ALE Co., Ltd. In 2017, Ms. Okajima was awarded the START-UP OF THE YEAR 2018 Porsche E-Performance Award by Porsche Japan as part of Forbes JAPAN’s Japanese Entrepreneur Ranking BEST 10. In the same year, ALE’s concept for man-made meteor showers was acclaimed along with its selection as part of JAXA’s “Innovative satellite technology demonstration program.” In January 2019, ALE’s satellite was successfully launched via JAXA’s Epsilon Rocket. In addition to promoting an entertainment business using man-made meteor showers, Ms. Okajima also focuses on finding new ways to utilize the technologies and knowledge that the company has developed. She aims to contribute to the scientific field in the future by providing space environment data, which was previously difficult to obtain, to related research institutions and companies.
