Ikuko Yamaguchi

Ms. Yamaguchi was born in Tokyo and graduated from International Christian University with a major in Education in 1992. She received her MA in Comparative Education with Distinction from Institute of Education, University of London, UK.
After working as Programme officer at National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan, she moved to Cambodia to work with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a United Nation's Volunteer Literacy Expert, for a community development and literacy education programme. She then moved to Pakistan in 1998 and worked with the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad as Chief NGO Advisor of a Japan's ODA scheme, Grassroots Assistance programme.
In 2002, Ms. Yamaguchi joined Office of Emergency Programme of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Geneva, Switzerland, which supports UNICEF's emergency and humanitarian operations around the world. After working as Communication Officer and Child Rights Advocacy Officer with UNICEF, she joined United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Japan office as Donor Relations Officer and served as a team leader to mobilize resources and enhance partnerships with the Government of Japan. She returned to UNICEF in January 2010 to take her current position. She has one child.
