Yoko Kuroki

Actress, Representative of "Unit Bijin"

Ms. Kuroki was born in 1977 in Miyazaki prefecture but grew up in Kobe. She graduated from Faculty of Letters, Kyoto University. Ms. Kuroki joined theatrical group Gekidan Eisei in the same year as she began her university studies and has been active as a Kyoto-based actress ever since. In 2003 she founded "Unit Bijin" with Akiko Kamimoto and is in charge of scripts and production. With "women's strength, beauty, and laughter" as their basic theme, Unit Bijin expresses women's comedy through physical movement. Works include "Kateika no Onna Futari" (Two Women from the Homemaking Course" (2005) which portrays women's struggles in a homemaking course, and "Kamimusubi no Onnatachi" (Women Hairdressers) (2007) which is about popularity and beauty. NHK has aired a workshop with Unit Bijin, "Katei Sougo" session (General Homemaking) on their Kyoiku Koko Kouza program (NHK High School Education Course) since May 2008.
