Miyako Maekita

Representative, Sustena

Creative director and copywriter Ms. Maekita was born in Tokyo in 1963 and is the representative of Sustena, an advertising media creative agency for environmental NGOs.
She has been working on NGO ads since 1994 and is the chief editor for "ecocolo," an earth-friendly lifestyle magazine for women. She also plans and supervises the "ecocolo TV" segment for the TV Asahi show "Spaceship Earth" and promotes the cultural movement "Candle Night." In 2005, she was a member of the Japan campaign committee for the Global Call to Action Against Poverty.
Ms. Maekita's recent projects include the Food Mileage campaign and Biodiversity Observation by One Million People campaign. Her primary works are "Eco-Shift" (Kodansha Gendai Shinsho), "Turn off the lights, take it slow" (supervision, Makino Shuppan), "Candle Night" (supervision, Blue Orange Stadium), and "Sekaikara Mazushisawo Nakusu 30 no Hoho (30 Ways to Eliminate Poverty from the World)" (supervision/joint publication). ewoman Roundtable Discussion chair.
She is also "PeaceAd" assistant professor of Peace & Conflict Studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, as well as visiting professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design and Tohoku University of Art & Design, and part-time professor at Rikkyo University and Sophia University.
