Kan Suzuki

Member of the House of Councilors
Visiting Professor, Chuo University
Representing Director, Association of Renaissance of Japanese Education

Mr. Suzuki graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Tokyo in 1986. Prior to his current position, Mr. Suzuki worked for the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and taught at the University of Sydney and at Keio University, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies (SFC). He became a member of the House of Councilors in 2001 and has been focused on education, medical issues, Asia, information, and the Constitution ever since.

He was also known as "the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of the next Cabinet (Democratic Party of Japan)", and has served as deputy chief secretary and vice chairman, Policy Research Council. He currently serves on several committees, as chairman of the Special Committee for Political Ethics and Election System; chairman of the Committee for Solution's Reconstruction of Crisis in Medical Facilities, vice chairman for the Committee for Promotion of Soccer Diplomacy, and director of the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Songs and Folklore.

In the Democratic Party of Japan, He is the chairman of the Committee for the Promotion of Internet and Election Activity and team leader for the Research Development Project for Environmental Equipment. He also teaches at Chuo University, University of Tokyo, and Osaka University. He is also director of NPO Greenbird and general secretary of the Association for the Promotion of Medical Reform.

His publications include "The Birth of the Voluntary Economy", "Teacher's Revival", "Catch Ball's Childcare", "Junior High School's Reconstruction", "The Concept of Community School", and "The Process of Central Government Policies' Formation". As a singer, he has recorded several CDs, including "Suzukan Revolution", "Rakuten Eagle's Theme Song", and numerous chorus songs with the Roppongi Male Chorus Group.
