PROFILE

Kaku Sechiyama

Associate Professor, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Tokyo University

Mr. Sechiyama was born in Nara in 1963. He earned a B.A. from the Faculty of Education, and then a Ph.D. on Learning Methods from Tokyo University.

Prior to his position as an Associate Professor at Tokyo University from 1994, he studied in Korea at Seoul University and worked as an assistant at Faculty of Letters, Hokkaido University.

His specialty is theory of gender. Publications include "East Asian Patriarchal System" and "Theory of Gender Comedy" (both from Keisoshobo). He is a researcher who puts theory into practice everyday as his two children attend a daycare center in his office complex. He also gives speeches on "Laughing and Thinking of Less Children-Aging Society" around Japan with his children accompanying him.
